Curiosities : ‘Opium’
A walk in the dark my dear, while the old ones dream?
This exhibit displays a slender, nay, elegant profile. The bowl cants forward so steeply it seems to recline in some sort of languid torpor. The bowl’s flared rim is a smooth dark contrast against the natural colour of the briar. The line glides down the curiously plant-like outline and contracts to a waspish waist at the bowl/shank junction.
The shank then bulges to accept the recessed stem. It is at once both alluring and repulsive. Like all life’s forbidden fruits, you long to experience it, but know you shouldn’t.
A walk in the dark, my dear?
Yes. Why not.
